Most days I simply love me job. Yes, there are some days it isn't on my favorite list of awesome things. Such as in the fall when it is so crazy busy working 17 hours a day is just well...crazy. I wish I could say I was exagerating on that number, but it is the true. And a result of that my blog and Facebook takes a big ol' backseat to everything else. But on days like this, on Miss C's session; when the light is divine, the subject is beautiful inside & out, I am working usually barefoot walking thru the lovely grass on a warm fall day, I can say it isn't a bad gig.

The next few in the series are some of my favorites of the whole 2011 season.

Oh and I love these too! :)

As I hold my three fingers in the air....On my honor, I will try.....to blog more. Ok it maybe lame, but that was a tribute to another Girl Scout friend. Miss J and my daughter were also in girl scouts when they were little. And since kids grow up.... here she is a senior; an adult ready to put those hard working Girl Scout promises to use. :)

We did the session on a early fall morning. The light was amazing as you will see. I just love shooting sessions in the fall. The sun is low in the sky and so beautiful.
I am sure you read my ramblings of light, but it truely makes or breaks a photo.

I have known Miss R for a few years now as she is also a friend of my daughter's, and to me she is aka Ray-Ray. It really has been an awesome year to see these kids that I have watched come into their own, grown up and have such a bright future ahead of them.
We started her session with a the threat of a thunderstorm approaching, but figured we would have enough time to get the session done. Well, we were wrong. We were able to get about 2 outfits in before I looked to the west and it was so dark it looked like midnight was just a few miles away. Then lighting hit and then the skies dumped on us! It poured. Cats & dogs. I never understood that term for raining so hard, but whatever. So then comes rescheduled session #2.

We did some of her session at a farm I had the privilege to have a session there a few years ago with another senior. I LOVE that farm and every old, dilapidated, rusty, item on that farm. Take a peek and you will see why.

I want that truck, even if it doesn't run and has a small tree growing through the side mirror.

{Miss D} Maple Grove, MN Senior Photographer

I love it when I get to see repeat clients from year to year. And I love it as well when they make the trek to do so. Miss D and her family including her sister a previous senior of mine, made their way here from their home town of Maple Grove to have D's turn for her senior session. For a sneak peek from older sister L's session click HERE.

We started the session downtown and braved the heat & humidity. This summer was crazy for that!

I love, love, love that top D!

And when a desk is sitting out on the sidewalk, it just begs to be used as a prop.

And so does a random chair left in the alleyway. This one I would have probably snuck into my vehicle only that it would be wrong ;) AND during the summer I can hardly get my own family into my big ol' SUV due to all the other props rolling around in the back. So the chair stays.

These sisters have style. I love the extra accesories...rings, necklaces, scarves, jackets & layers...nothing to over done, just perfectly done.

Yes, those of you photogs who are sticklers for a perfectly straight horizion....some rules are meant to be broken. :)I love the angle the beach, tree line and sky make on this image.

And one problem when clients travel a ways for their photo session is if they forget something. In this case it was pretty vital...jeans. Jeans that went with about 3 of the many outfits Miss D planned. Problem solved. My friends at Lillian's Of Alexandria are so fun and so helpful. Miss K's session from mid August...yes, mid August. I know, with the busy season my poor, poor blog gets so neglected. So now, that the holidays are over and busy-ness has lightened my blog is getting some love.

K and her mom are so fun and we really had a blast on her session. And we started her session just down the street from her house at a neighbors little barn. A place I have thought about asking to shoot there before, so it worked out pretty good. K's mom chatted it up with the owner while K & I got to work producing images like this.....

And then onto another neighborhood barn, how funny, right? It would rock my world to have not one but two barns right down the street to use at my leisure. ;)

Oh the summer sun....

I will be completely honest, I was pretty uncomfortable being on the other side of the camera when I booked my family's photo session with another photographer. Not that I didn't doubt her...btw her is Jessica of JMPhotography. I knew they would be great. It is just being a photographer, handing over the reigns to something that I could not control, leave it up to them, and not give my 2 cents was going to be hard. That and also having reservations cause of the same reasons you may have to put off family photographs. Such as, not being at the weight you want (ummm....hello?!), hair not the right style, maybe kids have braces (thank God we are done with that), whatever the reason. I ditched the reasons not to and looked at the reason to do so. I have always known the importance of photography to document our lives, I mean I am a photographer, duh. But to have someone else do it instead of us gathering, posing and waiting for the timer. There was no spontaneous, candid, connection shots that I want of ALL of us. So this October we did. Much to my husband and kids' confusion. "You are a photographer, and you are going to hire a photographer". Yes, and yes. About half way into the session Kev told me that he got it, why it is impossible to get the shots I wanted the way we always have done it. So thanks Jess!!

Love that wall.

The J family's first session was set on a beautiful August afternoon. This also tells you how behind I am on my blog.
Mom K, is very pregnant, Dad E, is very proud, and Miss A is completely, totally carefree.

Nothing says summer like little girls in flowy dresses barefoot in the grass.

Sweet little "B". I can say sweet, cause she is and I can say little cause she is just that too. I am only 5'2"...ok baaaarely 5'2", so when I encounter anyone who is my height or under it makes me fell something that I am clearly not. Tall. I am about to clue you taller folks in on something. Anyone who is vertically challenged will tell you the same thing. When we were younger, taller people would randomly pick us up and try to carry us around. I don't know why. Someone should clue me in on this one. But in my elementary school days, it wasn't an everyday thing, but definately weekly. Like we are some sort of token to prove something to their friends that they can pick up a shorty and walk around. Some sort of a weird Strong Man competition-like display. Any way..I digress.

On to Miss B's session.

Amazing how a little garden shed can have the coolest light streaming in thru a skylight.

I had so much fun with this family! Mom wanted fun, relaxed shots of her kids playing, laughing, on the beach, in the water...wherever. Which to those who are looking for the same, there is a key to get this. Let me go. Give me the permission to get your kids all riled up, giddy, and yes, maybe bouncing off the walls in my cleverly controlled way. This is exactly what "S", "F" & "K"'s mom did. And I always say it turns out to the best photos and turns into what I think photographs are best for...a stroll down memory lane. Ok as corny as that sounds it's true. You will remember the day. The laughs, quirks, sillyness, even the tears (sorry Miss K), and the time of those kids' lives that they will never be that way again.

This one, I just looooove. (Amy just framed it up the other day with her vintage frames and it turned out soooo awesome, and unfortunately, I didn't have my camera that day.)

This family has the most amazing home. I just may move in when they are not looking. Everything looks as if it was straight out of a magazine. You see, Amy aka Mom, has her own business. You may have seen their work at Yesterday's. The name of the company is 67 Cottage. Truely awesome stuff!! Check it out!

And here... I was able to make a treck out to their home recently and luckily I had my camera in my car from a session I just came from. I had to show you what Amy did with some of the enlargements she ordered. There are two other 20x24s that she hadn't framed and displayed yet, so I will have to se those another time! But the mantel print is 20x24 cut down a little to allow for the vintage frame (old frames do not always have standard sizes) and the blue frame is a 11x14. No I didn't forget her name or I am not being mean. You see Miss K is bff with my daughter and my daughter calls her almost anything but her real name. Made up names, most containing her name and then something else. So, when Kalee says "Kristopherson", or "Krystal" or "Kristopher Robin" is coming over, I know who she is talking about.

We did two sessions for K to change things up but also the first one got cut slightly shorter than planned when a random rainshower decided to foil our plan.

Second session begins...now!

Whether on the inside she is or not, she would sure have me fooled. Miss R's senior session was such a treat. She was relaxed, casual, and herself. Which for me, is what I strive for in each photo session. I have said it before the best compliment I can get from my clients is "you captured her personality" or "this is so him!" I NEVER want to hear, "wow, that doesn't even look like me!" So knowing R for a few years, I think she came to the session with "her" right on her sleeve. Perfect for me.

I also loved her outfits!!!

I am a big softy for girls who play guitar since having a daughter that does. And a big fan of girls who play while shooting their session. Heaven, I am telling you!

She is completely sweet.

With Miss A's session, we were totally chasing the light. We had a lot of ground to cover. I usually tell my seniors that I get bored easliy so bring a fair amount of clothing changes. Now, I don't want you to bring the whole closet, but around 4-5 outfits is typically enough for me to give you a totally varied session. So Miss A, listened. You gotta move fast as the sun waits for no one.

Crazy weed things were soaking up the sun and looked awesomely weird, and if it is unique, old and/or dilapidated I want it in my photo.

Grab a cup of joe, this is gonna be a long one.
First to start off I have Miss C. She was one of JGP's senior reps this year. And so much fun to get to know and photograph. And you will see why in a second, or if you have cheated and scrolled down, you already know.
Those of you who aren't familiar with my Senior Rep program, I will tell you a bit. These seniors are working for me sort of speak, they get certain perks and savings with their sessions and print prices. But they are out there promoting JGP in a positive way to everyone in their class as well as underclassmen and well, pretty much everyone! They have two sessions, the first one is for me. I tell them where we are going, what props I want to use, suggest things to wear and their second is their senior session. So I start the interview process for reps just after the holidays. So watch for announcments or email me to be put on the contact list.
First session for "C"/me. ☺

Yes, those blue eyes are really that blue. No enhancements there.

The next image goes into my list of all time JGP images.

Now this is from C's second session. The farm belongs to a family member of C, who was ever so gracious to let us use the location for the session. The whole yard and old "barnyard", was stunning with gardens, creative spots everywhere you look. Even a walk into the woods were paths, sitting areas to chill or swat mosquitoes. I believe it was featured on last year's Garden Tour. The work that it took to get this farm to what it looks like is unbelievable.

Love the lines, sun and shadows.

When there is a barn that cool, you gotta give it some love.

The next part of this blog post is J's session, cousin to C. Their two sessions were some of my favorites. One, the location was completely awesome. Two, the two seniors are completely awesome. Three, that they are cousins. Why, just cause they are cousins? Because I was really close with my cousin as well. We were bff's from birth. We were only 3 months apart, he older than me. But in high school, we were inseparable. In fact, were mistaken for dating more than a few times. Maybe he cramped my style for the dating pool, but it all worked out in the end. :)

Loved these shots in the barn. Let me tell you it was dark in there, really dark. That is why I love my camera so much as these were shot at ISO 2500 and not hardly any grainyness (aka noise, for those photogs).

Many know that I have a daughter that is graduating this year. So, in that I know so many of the kids in her class and some I have known since they were really little. Miss K is one of those "kids". The girls were in Girl Scouts together so I will tell you that they spent time learning new things, exporing new places and a few nights "sleeping" on hard floors or squeeky bunks at overnight camps, malls or museums. So now here is Miss K...all grown up.

That shirt just pops those baby blues.

As far as my blog goes, I have been missing in action. This is the time of year that the blog takes an ol' back seat to just about everything. Too busy with shooting sessions and editing and the blog falls by the way side. I say every year it will be better the next, and well, it really never is.

So here is some catching up. The "B" family came from many points across the US to land here for their vacation. And wouldn't you know it, it was the hottest most humid time of the whole summer. So humid in fact we did the session in shifts. One family out in the session, the waiting in the wings of the comfort of air conditioning. It was HOT, sizzling humid heat. Blah. But you would you never know it by their smiling faces!!

And it began with two. ♥

This was the kids' idea! And I love it!

My ideas...and they did them perfectly!

I love it when I tell people to pile together and they really do.

So glad to have met you all! And literally sticking together for the day!

Miss C's session was awesome, mainly cause she is! She was so excited for her senior photo session. I get told a lot how nervous some seniors are. And I am always taken back by that. But within minutes most find themselves having fun, getting relaxed, and getting into it. Sometimes I even tell seniors to save their favorite outfits for the end of the session, cause most seem to chill a bit and find themselves having a good time. Which I am pretty sure C said to me that she had a blast!

Well we started the session just like this...awesome, right? It gets even better.

Probably my favorite of the day.

{fast track} Central Minnesota Senior Photographer

Miss M knows exactly what she wants and is clearly on her way to get it. She is a senior, well, obviously since these are the images from her senior session. But she is also at doing her post secondary classes at Concordia College, definitely on the fast track.

We had a wonderful evening for her session. The light was gorgeous, her outfits were awesome and she is adorable! I had the pleasure of doing her older sisters senior session a few years ago. I just love that, to see the differences, similarities and connections they have.

I love our cozy little downtown. So many quaint shoppes from clothing, to decor, to antiques and gifts...etc...etc. It also lends itself to be great unique backdrops.

Changing it up to a softer, country feel with amazing, warm lovely light.

I love my vintage yarn blanket. Second hand $2. Yep, I rock, I know.

I hope you are learning tons, studying hard and having fun with your senior/college ☺ year Miss M!

I love Miss K's clothing choices for her senior session. I love layers for photos, and in life in general, I suppose. Because it not only looks awesome but comes in handy in crazy Minnesota weather. For example, I wore a wool sweater and wool socks then shorts and flip flops all in the same week.

And I really really, really like these as well. You don't always have to have your session in the warm haze of the afternoon light. These we shot in the early morning.

{wide open spaces} Central Minnesota Photographer

When K from New Hampshire called to schedule a family session when she would be home visiting her family, she said that she wanted to do the session at her parents farm. I love it when my clients have goal other than just get their family photos done, but to capture moments and memories of the present as well as holding onto those memories that have past. She also wanted something different that in that what her family photos can conveyed while living out east. Not so many wide open spaces as we have here in MN. Lots of corn fields, lots of implement, lots of warm fuzzy memories for K to show her 3 kids. Health issues are plaquing this family so to capture these memories are not only important, they are everything. I am truely honored when people are trusting me to capture such important connections in their life, I take it personally. Because to me is it also important, it is everything.

As far as weather goes...this was a bit of doosey. It had torrential rains the night before that started off the local flooding. So we were a bit worried as the day was forecasted to hold more rain. Although the sun was out in the beginning of the session, the wind was wicked, especially because of the "wide open spaces" with that brought in the clouds.

Oh how I love these. They are so sweet. They were just walking across the farm, I wasn't telling them what to do. They just were there for support and love. ♥

The better half ☺ of my dear friend from high school contacted me to photograph their extended family for their reunion, and of course I said yes!
So here is the whole, big clan. Luckily there was a whole, big deck to fit said clan upon.

And here are my sweet friends. I love to see them, as we don't get to that much. I have known G for about 25 or so years now, we go way back. He was and will always be the life of the party, the wise-guy, the comedic, the all-around sweetest big kid around. I have so many memories of him and all our friends...too many that maybe should not be shared as it just may give ideas to our children. ;) So many memories that bring a huge smile to my face and sometimes a good ol' chuckle. I mean besides Kev and I, I would have to say he probably had more fun than anyone at our wedding judging by the amount of dancing and yee-hawing he did. When he met his now wife D, well I will have to say that she could be the best part of him; her and their two boys. I just think the world of them all.

Their sweet boys, who apparently loooooove to fish, be shirtless, and just being b.o.y.s.

It is this time of the year when blogging is craaazy behind. So those of you waiting so patiently, I am trying. I enjoy telling you little stories about clients, life, photography and all it's whatnots. But I am telling you, man it takes a ton of time. So, if anyone out there wants to clue me in on a quicker way. Let me know!
Anyway...meet Miss A. She is so sweet, fairly quiet, definately beautiful and very athletic.

Love this series!

I get asked from time to time if I do "formal" portraits. I definately can as shown in the next series. Even if we are doing the session outdoor, we can still "fake" it with a interesting wall, solid or otherwise, field of grass...whatever. Formal definately has grey areas now, things that were labeled "typical headshots" or designated to yearbooks are definately changed over the years. It important to find a photographer that fits your style and what you are looking for. Don't be afraid to ask her/him/me* ☺ about an idea you have, something you saw in a magazine or a friend's photos, or a tradition that you want to recreate.

Miss E and her "assistants" aka mom and boyfriend, who I immediately turned into my "assistants" made their way to her senior session, and thankfully the rain stayed away. It always makes me nervous for seniors who drive a distance to get here, but thankfully it was a great summer evening.

Her and her cute little dimples.

Love the depth in this next image, as known as depth of field. I always think background is important, but what is more important is my subject. Shooting with a wide aperture is my favorite, this way my subject isn't lost into whatever it is that is behind her. I loved the blurred foreground and background, especially in a field where single blades of grass are woven in and out of focus. Each blade can catch the light differently. If you a shutterbug, play around with your fstops. See what dramatic looks you can achieve with a large aperture or small.

I only got slightly lost on the way to the M family home for their session. Darn GPS, you aren't ALWAYS right you know.
This was to be a rolled all into one session. Which fits my personality well. We started off the session with the lovebirds K & N. They were recently engaged and busy planning their wedding as most couples are.

This is when I take one for the team if you will. I love days at work that envolve me with my feet in the water and sand. This day, I was up more than just the toes got a little wet. You see the water line on their pants...put it this way, they are taller than me!

They were heading out to their softball game and had to do just a couple casual ones.

And now Mrs. T's turn to shine. She needed to polish up that business headshot and boy, did she ever!! Stunning right??

The little "G" family drove an hour for their session, and we all prayed it would not rain. And I guess it worked.

When I arrived at the session for this wonderful extended family, I made a comment how I LOVED their outfits and how they all looked wonderful in pink, even the guys. And was promptly told, by a man, that "real men wear pink". Now, I agreed.

The whole kit and kaboodle.

Tara contacted me for their photo session. They were vacationing and arranged a photo session while they were here. I get many families who do this and I strongly recommend it. It is a little more planning, but so worth it. Everyone is relaxed, and enjoying themselves and most importantly together. Tara told me that photographs are so important to her as she lost her husband two years ago to melanoma. And to have photos through out the stages of her life is a big deal. Memories can fade, but a photograph just propels you back in time to refresh the feelings and time of your life. In fact, I was just going through some of mine when my kids were little and remembering things that I had forgotten about, but as I looked through those photos everything came flooding back. It is so important to document all the stages of your life. Don't wait until you lose weight, or until the circumstances are just so. It is you at that moment in time, a moment that is just as important than the rest. Not to be forgotten.

Also celebrating 40 years of marriage. Congratulations you two!! I am sure you are scratching your head wondering how did 40 years come about!
This beautiful woman is strong and amazing and a fighter. She was diagnosed last fall with lung cancer, days I am sure are hard and tiring but you have quite the strength in yourself and the family that love you tons. You have a beautiful family and I was privileged to meet you all and capture your family.

Little man "A" was back to see me for his 6 month old photos.

Oh little man your are certainly loved.

Little "C".

HERE he is in all brand new and when his parents were "green". And HERE when he was one.

Now he is back; 2 and on the move...big time!

Mommy's boy.

It was fun messing with C too. I mean, having him search for puppies that weren't there. Well, you would do it too if every time you asked it he would do this!

Then I think he was on to me. "Silly lady, there aren't any puppies around here!"

Then most kids find out that I carry quite the stash of treats to bribe, er, rather entice little ones to sit, or smile or look this way before the inevitable melt down ensues. And C played this tune like a fine fiddle. He would "ask" for more using his cute toddler sign language and......

....when we weren't Johnny on the spot with it. I got this.

Treat given...I got this.

You would think that little man "C" would be used to me, after all I have had three session with him. First time HERE. Second time HERE. And third time...you are lookin' at it. But like most guys, little or not, aren't exactly diggin' on the whole 'get-my-photo-taken' thing. No matter how many times I peak from behind my camera, or clap, or jump, or make quirky sounds with my mouth. But all daddy had to do is make a smile or goofy face and C would smile from ear to ear. Figures...I get it, he is your man, I am just some lady who sees you 3 times in your whole life, makes you sit in the darnest places, do the cutest things. No feelings hurt here.

He laughs at dad, discovering his voice, and hates laying in the grass.

And loves to climb the ladder to the barn.

I met this adorable group of cousins who also are BFF's, which I can totally relate as I love my cousins! Their kids are close in age and the idea of starting a second generation of close cousins is perfect.

The day started looking iffy, but rather than reschedule because they were coming a distance for the session. We decided to roll with it. And roll big time, they got all dolled up in their finest rain slickers, rain boots and fun lady bug umbrella. And then...it didn't rain. But the rain from the night left behind a kids dream and parent's laundry nightmare....PUDDLES! Like I said good thing they were prepared.

Thanks guys! I had so much fun on your session!

{Habitat for Humanity, Douglas County style} Central Minnesota Photographer

About a year ago I took part in my first and surely not to be my last Habitat for Humanity Build Day. Believe it or not, I had fun insulating, caulking, and taping! Now if I was not surrounded by wonderful women all covered in dust, wearing 3M face masks helping to build a home for someone deserving, I am not sure I could say the same. At any rate, it is something I encourage you to do. Get a group together, or join in on one. You don't need any experience, I mean they let me in the door didn't they?!

There is always something going on, something that needs to be done and something that need attention. So turning your attention to Habitat for Humanity Douglas County's website HERE. You can find out about the next build, the next deadication and the next opportunity for you to help.

Back this winter, yes this winter (I have been busy)...was the session with the "O" girls. You may remember, I have been there a few times before. Jog your memory HERE and HERE.
Now the twins are 1 and so big, so independent, and so into Cheerios. Anything to keep a kid and in this case three in the same spot, I will do it.

Miss E, had her idea of what she should wear and really I loved it. I am all about the bargain, "sure we can do some with your leotard, sunglasses, and necklaces, THEN we will do what mommy wants you in" sort of thing. Seems perfectly acceptable to me, right?

I thought I would give you a peak at the 3 pack mini accordian albums they ordered from their session. I love those little things! One for each of the grandparents and one to keep. Perfect, everyone is happy!

With the Class of 2011's graduation just a few weeks from now, I have my last '11 senior to share with you. As I have said before I never share sessions without my clients having their photos in hand to show off to their loved ones first, as not to ruin the surprise. So now that is taken care of I can plaster my blog with Miss J's session from last August.

I think the farm setting was a beautiful choice for J's session. She seemed to fit in there seamlessly. Her style, her look, her personality. Just easy going and as sweet as they get.

It seems cruel to show you snow photos when FINALLY things are getting green around here. However, I don't like to show you before the family or couple can show their loved ones. So the "Save the Date" cards have been mailed out and now I can share this special couple with you.

This is K & T. And they are...Completely. Adorable. And Completely. In. Love. Enough periods for you? That is when you know...I. mean. it. The love they share is palpable to anyone standing near. They couldn't stop smiling at each other, T couldn't take his eyes off of his bride to be. Ahhh....love.

I really love shooting in the snow. It's a wonderful light reflector and you can blend all the busy-ness away, to focus on what is important. Them.

Thank you guys for being up for my ideas, laughing at me when I took one for the team and fell in the knee high snow, and for being so gosh darn cute. All my love to you!!

With only four-five weeks left of their senior year, the excitement is building and anticipation is at peak. Their senior year is almost to an end. So enjoy this time, soak it up. You deserve it. You have worked hard, played hard, and primed yourself for this big, big world. Some of your paths are clear and concise, some are a little more fuzzy at this time, and that is ok. It is your path, your journey, your time.

Congratulations class of 2011. Well done!

And do me a favor…thank your parents. Thank them for all the mac-n-cheese bowls, ice cream for breakfast and pancakes for dinner. Thank them for putting up with you wearing your favorite t-shirt or sundress for a week straight. Thank them for the getting you through the high fevers, sore throats, and late night puke parties. Thank them for picking you up at 2:14am when you wanted to come home from that sleepover that nothing of the sort going on. Thank them for always buying you the newest trends, the t-shirt you had to have, or the jeans that were so expensive they packed p b & j’s for a week’s worth of work lunches. Thank them for all the help with science projects, English essays, and algebra assignments that they had to Google to figure it out. Thank them for the unconditional love, support, and pride. Pride of the person who you are and the person you will be.

Thank you to all my seniors of 2011. You made my year wonderful just by meeting and getting to know you! All my best to you in your bright future!!!

As, I share the last few seniors of the 2010-2011 school year. I alway get attached to these kids, er...young adults. Prom was just last week and while at grand march, I wanted to stay for the whole thing to see everyone but since it was my daughters junior prom I needed to do my motherly duties and greet her and her date after grand march. I am just so proud of these bright, fun, entertaining, fantastic young adults.

My point is, here it is spring; the senior slide. Such an exciting time, and so much anticipation.
What will I do?
Where will I be?
WHO will I be?
And how fast can I get there?
Right???

One who I know I will miss seeing is Miss A. The past few years I have had the opportunity to see her perform in dance. She is fabulous in every sense of the word.
Miss A was also one of my senior reps this year and did a wonderful job for me.

{got away from me} Starbuck, Minnesota Family Photographer

Little R's sixth month photos were back in the fall. And yep, it is spring and I am blogging about it now. Because I was getting ready to blog his 1 year session. Ummm, I think things got away from me, and thought I did, only to find out I didn't. Whoops! Sorry Mom & Dad!!! You will remember R from his newborn session HERE.

This is little R, not exactly sure of things just yet.

I just loved this session. My friends at Yesterday's antique store helped me out with this awesome bright red vintage highchair. Isn't this just the sweetest thing?

Funny thing about that highchair and it's safety...or lack thereof. No strap, you could easily pinch a little ones fingers after you lower and knock them in the head with the tray. Man, some things have changed for the better.

Don't you just love a little kid in a bucket? I do.

And now fast forward six months for his year photos!
Still unsure about me at first and stuck pretty close to mom & dad.

Lucky for us, dad's always make us laugh.

Checking out what the big kids were up to down the hall.

Then he remembered why he was there, and apparently didn't like that idea at all. So he needed a little mommy lovin'.

And then back to some smiles.

Thanks L family! Always good to see you!!! Next time I will have on my running shoes as I know he will be more mobile then!

This year was the year that made me feel old. This year I had three seniors that I had done daycare for apparently many moons ago. In fact "D", I have known you before you were born. I still remember the day I found out you were coming into the world.♥ You see, D's dad and my hubby have known each other since, well, forever. I have known his mom & dad a little less than forever, but still a long time.

Little sister "A" joined in on the fun! I love this! They have such a great relationship. I mean really what brother wants his sister literally hanging on their back?!? ;) Again, little miss, sorry to air this, I used to change your diapers.

Their farm was wonderful, the sun was strong, but setting quickly as we made our way around every unique corner, fence and barn.

I came back for his second session and let me say...juuuust a bit colder than the last time. Oh. My. Goodness. Was it cold! But how else can you get snowmobile shots without snow? And snow comes with cold. Yep, that is the nature of things. ☺

Oh sweet little man "C". It was great to see him and his family again. Last time he was even littler at his newborn session. Refresher HERE.

So now I was back for his 6 month portraits. So smilely and happy.

Little man C is little wobbly yet. I love that stage when they can pretty much sit all by themselves but occasionally get so excited and then tip over. Luckily mommy & daddy are a quick catch. And no babies were hurt in this photo session.

Not really sure what prompted this face, but I big time love it!

Brrrrrrr.......I can still my teeth chattering. I think it may have been the coldest day of the winter, and probably the quickest session.

This family is incredible. We known each other for a while now, but have gotten to know each other better this year, and for that I am very thankful. They are all that and a bag of chips. Do they still say that? Probably not. But I will.

As we are in "official" spring, but we all know in the great state of MN, all that white stuff sticks around far beyond what that darn calendar says. But part of me likes sessions in the snow, if I can get past the cold that is. But the light that reflects upward off that blanket of white, looks awesome on everybody!! And it adds an extra twinkle to the eyes! And on this particular day, light snow was floating on down. It really was a wonderful winter day.

Here is the B family. I had so much fun with them! We laughed and played....partly to stay warm, but mostly cause they are just a blast!

First, adorable big brother "B". Honestly, he is a natural. He knew what he wanted to do and he did it and looked so cute doing it!! If he had a jacket to model, pretty sure he would have flung it over his shoulder and gave a wink.

Next, little bro "N". Yep, I can hear you from here...what a doll, right?

Now the whole kit and kaboodle.

Knee deep snow...pretty much just stand there and don't move works for me!

Double the cuteness and double the tears. For this little family, they come in pairs. A mom & dad. Two girls; H & T. They even came with brand new teeny-weeny twin puppies, which I am sorry to tell you I didn't even get a photo of. The light was fading fast and it was getting dark in the house, so I needed to get to the job at hand; tackling a holiday photo with twin 4 month olds.

But only for a second...then it was all smiles.

Miss M. A little shy...only at first. Then about a 1/4 of the way into her session, she let go a little. The first few frames, she was all about "I don't know what to do", "I don't know how to stand/sit/look" and before I knew it she was all over this thing called a photo session and up in a tree! Needless to say her "shyness" was broken and shattered to smithereens.

Me: Hey M, I know you are wearing white and all, but how about you laying over there on the grou...
M: Sure!

When someone says music is their life...Aj really means it. It has been apart of his entire life and he hopes to keep it that way. He is a talented guitarist, member of the band called An Aeon Awakening. He is on track to attend one of the nation's top music college, McNally-Smith Music College in St. Paul....AND he owns his own music production company called Endeavor Studios Production. So, if you need any music recording and production needs...hit him up!

Of course we needed to find some graffti to grunge it up.

I love, LOVE layers. They photograph so well and can quickly be changed out for a slightly different look. You can layer it on with a cardigan, a belt, jewelry.

...that wouldn't sleep. Well, I am sure he does in fact sleep, but not at his newborn session. Newborns are on their own schedule, we all know that. I always say I have a lot of patience when working and waiting on newborns, and I do. However the early afternoon session was suddenly turning into an evening session and we were losing light in the house fast. Sure, sleeping newborn shots are the best as little ones make funny faces when they are awake. But little "A" was pretty mellow and it turned out just fine.
First up, some mommy and daddy time. Sure with all the yawning that was going on, I thought..."no problem he will be asleep in no time"...ha!

Living in Minnesota, spring fever runs rampant. The wonders of why we as a collective would live in a place that is frozen for 7 months out of the year dwell in my mind especially in the middle of March. When spring seems so close and yet so far away.
So I needed a small reminder of what is just a few months away. These are taken from my Grandma's garden. One of my favorite places to be.

...with no leaves. I swear our autumn was all of three days. The beautiful color of crimson, auburn, and orange were gone in a blink of an eye and laying all over the ground. However, for the one big family aka the "S" family, we had beautiful albeit bright sunshine.

Ok, I love family members of the furry kind, but these guys really had a mind of their own. All three of them. Sorta like 1 year triplets, but not. So you get it, right?

Just low key, chillaxing on the hill always make for great photos.

Here is the P family. We scheduled their session a few months out and they were coming from a good distance to get to their session. So this session is going to happen regardless that it is brutally cold outside. It was right before the white stuff ascended over the land, but it was just as cold.

Starting the session off with big brother. Such a tropper!!

And the littlest of the P family. He was so much more impressed with the kitties running around at the farm than me. Good thing I don't take it too personal. ☺

The far right image cracks me up and apparently Mom too. What was supposed to be a soft look to the camera, was a can't-stop-laughing-burying-my-head look. No problem, we can do that look too!

It is that time of the year. That we are sick of snow and ready for spring? Yes, but more importantly if you are a Junior in high school you are thinking...senior pictures!!!! Am I right?

Well, are you interested in working for your senior pictures? And when I say work..this is what I am talking about:

• You have to have a session with Jennifer Guenther Photography...two if you like!
• You have to tell all your friends and even non-friends about how much you love JGP.
• You have to hand out rep card to all those friends and non-friends about JGP.
• You have to be fun and outgoing and stylish and willing to try new things.
• You have to want to be a senior rep for JGP and not just because your parents told you to. Seriously. ☺
• You want to earn free prints.
• You want to compete with other senior reps for cash! Yes, I said cash!

I am looking for senior reps from all over, seriously. If you live 1 to 17 ☺ hours away (from Alexandria, MN) and are willing to travel to me...then you should apply. I have limited amount of senior reps that I use. So don't waste time...apply NOW!
I have to say, I am not looking for the prettiest, the most handsome (yes, guys you should apply too)...it isn't one of those type of things. Oh, how I loved everything about the the S family session this late fall. The day was wonderful, the light was gorgeous, the family was adorable, the boys were were a blast!

This family got it right with their clothing choices. The greys and blues with solids and textures and patterns. I love it all, especially big brother C's red converse (when I was young they were called Chucks...can I get an Amen and followed with a 'darn we are getting old'???).

Yes, they are just stinkin' cute. Brothers C, C and C. I have a hard enough time keeping my own kids names straight...I have only two and their names are nothing alike! So you throw me into 3 with the same first letter... you should have seen me trying to keep them all straight!!

I love these...the boys were crackin' up over something, could have been at my expense..not sure, at any rate I will take it!

Nope, not MY three sons. B & V's three sons.

Sometimes I think I surprise my clients, maybe mostly the dads, then the kids. Not all the time, but there are times that I am met with just a little trepidation. Maybe it is because you have done this song and dance (aka photo session) before. And maybe it wasn't as fun as you would like to have. Maybe you were told to 'sit, angle your head slightly to the right, and say cheese'. Well, within minutes into a photo session with me, you will find I am not that kind of a photographer. Dad and kids are usually relieved, hence making mom relieved. Sure we will get some 'losely posed' photos. Sure I will give clients suggestions of what is pleasing to the eye, but mostly it is a pretty general suggestion like, 'go stand by the barn', 'go sit on that blanket' sort of stuff. Then after that, it is really up to you. Now, that may scare some people at first but you will find, the better the images turn out. The best compliment I can get is "you captured us so perfectly". Not to say the pose it perfect...but you are perfect, just the way you are. I mean do you really want photos hanging on your wall and people to comment, "that doesn't even look like you"?? No, no you don't.

Aren't these three adorable??! I think so.

Just one of those times when I click the shutter and no one knew I was snapping, but there is something I just like about it.

These last ones were snapped as we were loading up actually. The light was perfect and well, honestly with a willing participant...that is all I need.

It was a very usually warm autumn day for the girls' session, so much the bugs were having a hay day. I mean we know what Minnesota winters are like as we sit here waiting for "the Blizzard". So any last hurrah in our gorgeous fall weather is cause for some excitement, if you are a bug or not.

Oh beautiful Miss B. She was so thrilled for her senior session! And when I met her, I have to say so was I. She is so full of energy, style, and lots of fun. Aaaaand...she is too cute for words.

The day of her session looked beautiful. However it was anything but. Blustery, chilly and, well...not as it appears in these images. So Miss B was workin' it.

I will be honest, I used to be scared to shoot in the middle of the day when the sun is at is highest. Most photographers (including me) will tell you that the best light is late in the afternoon or early morning. It is true, but life sometimes doesn't always allow that. B's session was done just after 12 noon in the middle of October. Granted the fall's sunlight isn't as strong as the summer but at any rate, it is bright. And just a quick note, I am a 100% natural light photographer, using natures and man made reflectors when I need, as I did with B's session.
I love how B's session turned out; the bright colors, the crisp light...wonderful.

And I don't know who these flowers think they are being in bloom in the middle of October. Crazy flowers.

Well, have you ever thought you did something, you were sure you did that something only to find out your were wrong? No, never, right? ☺ Well, I did with A's session, not forgetting the session, but thinking that I blogged it. I swear I did it, but it appears I was wrong. So sorry A that my brain likes to play tricks on me.

{what to wear Wednesday} Central Minnesota Photographer

The most common question I get asked right after a client calls to book a photo session with me is "what should we wear". I always tell people to dress a notch or two up from what you would normally wear. If you don't wear a tie normally, than don't wear one for the session. I don't like people to match. I like outfits to coordinate. What is the difference?? Instead of everyone wearing the same exact color, everyone should wear colors that are similar or work well together. I usually tell people to pick two to three colors and work from there. Or having neutrals and picking a color and tie it through the outfits.
I know I am jumping the gun as there is 2 feet of snow on the ground and it is below zero. But it will be gone before you know it (fingers crossed) and the spring fashions are soooo darn cute this season!
Here is an example of a family session. You can see that the main color is blue or light weight denium, with a little splash of color from the little girl's dress.

The next is for a little man. This outfit would work for a winter session as well as an early spring session. I love, love layers. They photograph so well, and also offers different options. You can even add his favorite baseball cap, or scarf depending on the weather.

The next is all about spring! I just love green and the accesories for this little girl's outfit. Even taking this outfit and making it more casual and fun, you could swap out the black dress for a sun dress, and mary janes for rain boots.

I hope this helps in selecting your fashion for your photo session. So it isn't too early...in fact it the perfect time to shop for your familys' clothing and schedule your spring session with JGP.

I know! Little B was one tough cookie to crack. He was sizing me up and I was sizing up those cheeks. They are so chunky that they pull down his lip to make the most adorable dimple. It took all my strength not to squish those cheeks!

Here is the whole enchilada of the F family. You see little man B, was a little surprise to his mom & dad, and his two big sisters (and he already has a brother in law, in fact maybe you remember L & D's engagement session here). And what a wonderful surprise he is!! I was talking to mom about him, her smile lights up the room and her eyes fills with tears. Such a loved little man. His sisters think he is the greatest on the planet...which he is! And dad...well, as proud as any dad I have ever seen. This is one lucky little man, he has rocked their world with just him being here and they can't get enough. It is just as it should be...they are right where they are supposed to be.

Pretty much sizes up the family. He is the center of it all!

And yet, I still can't win him over!!

Yeah a smile...granted his sisters had something to do with it!!

Mom ordered these 3x3 Mini accordian albums...I just love how they turned out. Such a great way to show off the loves of your lives!

Although we just met that morning of T's session it was sort of like we have known each other for years, I am talking about T's mom. We just hit it off. I felt sorta bad cause we just stood and chatted and chatted and chatted some more. And poor T, just had to sit and take it. But since he is the baby of the family and the only boy he is probably used to it.

Most photographers, myself included make a big stink over afternoon light. But early morning light can be awesome. Probably the last thing a senior wants to do is get up early on a Saturday to take his senior photos..but it was worth it.

I love Miss M's spirit, her sense of humor, her outlook on life, and her craziness. M, I say that is the best, most endearing possible way. Miss M told me that having her arms up as her rifle is in the air, is a big 'no-no' in the color guard world. They are supposed to be straight to the side while the rifle is flying feet above her head. Well, as far as I am concerned this looked and sounded crazy to me...as the clutz that I am, it sounded like an ER trip in the making. So to those that are noticing that, it is my fault...it looked better in the photo. I am all about it looking good AND being real, but this is the way, looking good won over several stitches to the forehead. (M, I know you can do it...I am just teasing)

I have to say that here at JGP...I have the nicest, smartest, most talented, cutest clients. And Z is no exception. We had a nice, relaxed late afternoon in the fall for Z's session. Just a taste of winter on the day we had our sessions with little Misses A & M. You may think they look familar, and if you do...I will show you why here.
Normally I wouldn't keep the session on for little ones, but being this was the second or third time we rescheduled the session, we decided the show must go on as they drive a little distance to get to me and ol' man winter was rappin' at the door.

And when we decided to go check out the pumpkin patch, the cold didn't matter. The girls were thrilled. They loved checking out the last reminents of the garden's produce. Mom was thrilled as well, as what was a photo session turned into a field trip, which is how I like to roll.

M was so excited about her session as most senior girls are which makes my job so much fun!! I love to see how each young woman decides on how they will have their hair, what they will wear, where to go, it is taking just a simple, small way to express who they are at that point in the big thing called life.

The light, you all know how in love I am about goregous, warm, soft, lovely, to-die-for-light on any ol' day but specifically when that sort of light happening on session days. It makes my heart all a flutter. Because light can make or break a photo. And when you get results like this you can see how important it is.

One of my favorite places here in Douglas County. It is just splendid in any season, but autumn takes the cake as far as seeing the beauty in what mother nature can do. It was a dark day, but at the same time made the colors just pop.

The A family was back for their annual family photo session. This one was sort a special as the youngest was literally spreading her wings and leaving the coop...er, I mean nest that weekend.

I love this family. Their sessions usually start about the same, quiet, everyone looking at me like 'what do we do now???'. And before you know it, they are 'knowing' what to do just fine!! Mostly teasing each other and me, which they now know I love it and will fire right back. It's a mutual good thing.

True brother & sister affection. Oh wait, that is a slight nudge or push, not a pat on the shoulder. Whoops..my bad.

Not that the T family are birds or I threw stones at them. But they did want some of my clients do, combine a senior session with their family session. The oldest, who is T was ready for his senior photos and they wanted to get the whole kit and kaboodle in at the same time. Which I love!!

No, this doesn't not discribe my next clients...well, in this decade anyway. And for those born in the 90's...Skid Row is a 80's hair band...we have may gotten into trouble, but not on 'skid row'. Mom T and I go back...way back, to be precise, 1988 back. We have more inside jokes from things we did, said, or otherwise...the trouble with it, they are getting harder to remember! HA! And maybe that is just as well. ☺

Mom T and I both have our families...a long time far off from the hairsprayed haze of the 80's. Crazy thing...she has 5 kids...even crazier...two sets of twins!!! Crazy, right?

The H family is one of the nicest you could meet. I am so glad I did! We had a great session, lots of leaves, lots of late blooming flowers, lots of love, lots of laughs...and mostly my own to be honest but more of that in a bit.

Aren't they just too cute??

They have this perfect trail on their hill that is cleared off to make a little tunnel sort of speak. I couldn't help to think how awesome this would be as a sledding hill during the winter, however the landing could launch a kid 20 feet onto the frozen lake. Which may or maynot be fun depending how much and how soft the snow would be for your landing.

Ok, I am really posting these for myself as I still crack up looking at them! They had a trampoline and the kiddos wanted to show me their tricks. Great idea, I think. Well, it was a great idea. They are so good at this, pros for sure. Especially little man. When he jumped up into perfect pike formation...I lost it. And luckily, I got it as well.

After I am not sure how many minutes of me laughing uncontrollably, with tears coming down my cheeks...I was finally able to compose myself to continue with just a few more. But I think little man wasn't buying it. I think he was looking for an escape route down the driveway. But after a bribe of candy he came back to join the family for one more.

Miss K wanted to include her hobby into her senior photos, and being that I did her sister's senior session a couple years ago...I just knew what the hobby would be.

And now you know too.

Beautiful autumn colors, walking on a long dirt road, lots of laughs as mom and K's sister joined us. It was a great afternoon!

Oh, how the light was through the trees! Just beautiful! We walked just beyond the fence and tree line to get to this wonderful light. However the "road less traveled" was heavily traveled by cows. So the treck out there was anything but glamorous! As you can probably imagine...wait, don't imagine! Just think about the gorgeous light. Needless to say, my shoes didn't fair too well either. Anything for a gorgeous photo!Well, almost anything!

Miss C's session took place this fall under warm temps and crazy wind. But all is good, wind we can usually make it work for us. Flowing hair in the breeze, or gail force winds...whatever.

I have done C's family's photo sessions for a few years now and just really love this family. So, knowing that her turn was coming for her senior pictures always seems forever and a day a way. But as I have found with my own teenagers...these are some the quickest years of a parents life. Before you know it they are no longer playing with Barbies, coloring outside of the lines, and digging in the dirt. They are growing into the young adults of today and leaders of tomorrow. Big stages require lots of kleenex, I say. So Mom L, I know you are proud of your girl as you should.

C made this sign herself. Young adults strong in their faith, what is better than that?

Storm clouds were moving in pretty fast, but it sure did make the color in these pop! C's family loved this one so much that they bought a big canvas for display in their home. I tell my clients often to buy canvas, as they are classic they never go out of style, and perfect for those who have siblings would have their turn for their senior session. Canvases will always be there.

We started Miss B's session on a good note and it just got better from there. As luck would have it, there sat the perfect backdrop in all her glory.

I get calls a lot wondering if I do weddings. And at this time I do not. But I am about to show you an exception.
L is a friend of mine and when she told me she was getting married and asked me to do the wedding, I was honored. And then, honestly, panicked. Just a little. As I have whenever I have said yes to a wedding. But knowing L, I quickly relaxed because that is just what she is. Relaxed.
So on to their day...

And before I go any further...this is T...the groom. Who is full up of kindness, hilarity with more than a touch of crazy. Oh, yes he moonlights as a male model as well.

Pretty sure I love this. Pretty sure I didn't know what he was saying. Pretty sure I don't want to know!

T is not only wonderfully crazy...he is full of ideas! These are just a few of his "visions". It is amazing that these are in focus as I was laughing uncontrollably and unable to hold the camera still!

A wonderful idea these two had, was to walk to the ceremony with all their family and friends. Each holding a song book and sang while walking hand in hand to the alter. It was beautiful.

The sunset was stunning. One of my favorite things of all time, a pink sunset.

On a blustry day late in the summer Miss E's had senior session. She was so sweet, gorgeous, and very patient with the ever so gusty wind.
I love turquoise jewelry and white. One of my favorite summer look! So when E's attire included it...I knew we would get along juuuust fine. ☺

Cars and trucks, specifically this make, is a very important role in their lives and livelihood. So it seemed fitting for the next series.

Introducing B. He is a sweet, quiet young man who looks cerntainly not old enough to be a senior...but he is. I know that it may bother some to say that, but believe me you will love it when you are older. So carry that flag for as long as your good genes will let you!!

I was so excited to see Miss A again. Her family lives down the street, however she lives on the East coast. When she contacted me she told me how she she would be visiting for her baby shower she would like to do a maternity session, I was thrilled!

Most all the leaves had changed and fallen off in what seemed a week's time. But between her house and mine... a glorious, bright orange maple tree.

Miss A aka momma to be, is a bit of shutterbug. She is working on her photography business where she lives. So it is fun to talk shop with her as well. In fact, we were looking at her images in the camera LCD and I had this image zoomed in to see detail, hence cropping the vertical image to a creative horizontal crop. "A" says, "Oh that looks great!" And I thought, yep you are right it does!! So the image on the left is as I shot it, the image on the right is the crop. I love them both!

Having two seperate senior sessions worked out so well for Miss M. One session at the farm with the early autumn colors and another with a sun drenched, urban vibe. One with long straight hair the next with her lovely natural curl. It is so fun, as I am a person who loves variety! I was lucky enough to have several seniors book two session this season. I highly recommend it! ☺
